Jag har nu kört TechTool och sett att några promille av min externa firewire disk är ¨bad¨ dvs dåliga.
Kan bara ¨se¨ min disk i TechTool Pro ¨Test¨läge och i Skivverktyg där man fixar skivbehörigheter. I TechTool kan jag inte hitta min disk i något ¨lagningsläge¨ och i skivverktyg kan jag se min disk och markera den men inga av knapparna blir aktiva. Kan inte heller se min disk på skrivbordet.
Vad kan jag göra, jag MÅSTE komma åt mina filer!!!!!
It is possible that running the Volume Structures test will fix the disk directory enough to enable the disk to mount. Given the fact that more than 4000 blocks are unreadable, I think you might be better off trying the File Recovery feature in tools. If that does not work, another program, such as Data Rescue from www.prosofteng.com, may work. I would encourage you to focus on attempting to recover just the files you created, the ones you cannot replace by running an installer. The number of bad blocks suggests that the magnetic media may be continuing to flake off the platter.If you have access to a bootable external drive, you could install Mac OS X on it, install TechTool Pro 4.0.1 on it, and then download and run the updater to version 4.0.3. We always encourage using the latest version, and the program will run better from a hard drive than it will from a CD, which does not allow virtual memory to be used.

Mitt förslag är att du testar _Data Rescue Mac_ eftersom de är "oslagbara"(?) på att få tag i bilder från olika skadade media. Du kan ladda ned programmet för att testa vad som kan räddas innan du bestämmer dig för om du vill betala för programmet. Du kan också med demoversionen rädda små filer en och en i sänder så att du ser att det fungerar.

Varken TechTool eller DiskWarrior (eller Norton Disk Utility) skall köras utan att man först räddat de filer som finns på disken, med till exempel vad jag föreslog i mitt andra mejl. Nu hoppas jag att Tech Tool inte har ställt till det så att du inte kan bärga filerna med Data Rescue Mac heller längre.
En liten tröst, om än en dyrbar en, är att det finns ett norskt företag som kan rädda filer från de mest saboterade hårddiskar. Så får du inte något bra resultat genom att tanka ned dina bilder med Data Rescue så återkom så får vi hjälpas åt att hitta adressen till norrmännen så att du kan få en offert innan du behöver ge hoppet helt förlorat. :-)

Fick i morse också tips om ett företag som finns i Danmark & Sverige som heter i-track,( http://www.i-track.se/ ) som säger sig kunna rädda i stort sett allt från en disk.

Situation:
I have a PowerBook G3 bronze, and several external harddrives. My largest LaCie 160 GB external harddrive (with about 125 GB of photos,music,documents) failed to show up on my desktop. I only use it as a storage. No system installed on it. Having tried some other solutions I heard about your software and Bought Data Rescue Bundle. I installed Data rescue X on one of my other external harddrives and I am now running a Thorough Scan. The Thorough Scan has been running for five whole days now and it has scanned 90 000 000 blocks by now. It has found about 1 000 000 items but the estimated time left is 22274:47.
My Question:
Should I just wait it out or is there anything else I should do????

Hi Martin, Scan time on a drive is primarily determined by the speed of the drive, the size of the volume, and whether the disk has many bad blocks or not, and to a lesser extent, by the speed of the drive used for temporary storage. To give you an idea, the Thorough scan time for one machine with a 40gb internal IDE volume with no bad blocks, and a Firewire external drive for temporary storage was about 40 minutes. If the disk has many bad blocks, this time can be lengthened considerably.
If you like, another option would be for you to Cancel the current scan and download a beta version of Data Rescue we have posted on our engineering website. The beta version incorporates more search features and the scan runs faster. Also, keep in mind if you Cancel your current scan you will loose all information Data Rescue has found so far.

Efter mer än fem veckors skannande har jag äntligen fått en fil där jag kan läsa allt som finns/fanns på min externa hårddisk alla filnamn och foldernamn precis som jag kommer ihåg dem. Nu visar det sig att jag måste synkronisera ¨the Allocation Blocks Layout¨ för att kunna rädda dem. Har försökt men gjort något fel. Väntar nu på svar från deras support.
